The Directors

Matt_Bowden_Pic_01Matthew T. Bowden is a Baltimore-based writer and director whose short documentaries have been featured on NPR, New Music Express (NME), and elsewhere.

As a life-long record collector, he fell head-over-heels for the music of the Electrifying Crown Seekers, and in 2009, he took leave from the Johns Hopkins MA Writing Program to co-direct and edit By and By, his first feature-length film.

Since that time, he has also produced and edited promotional short films for Tompkins Square Records and Johns Hopkins University, and his first narrative film, Spare Rooms, is currently in development.

Joe Compton has been a music and photojournalist  for twenty years: writing for a variety of music magazines and newsweeklies, on music and culture. He has been an on-air National Public Radio music reviewer in his hometown of Baltimore, MD in the same period.

In 2004 he met the Electrifying CrownSeekers at their New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival performance and was so impressed by the band’s dedication to their faith, their musical skills and on-stage  clarisma that he decided to attempt his first  feature documentary film bringing the Crown Seekers to a broader audience, and By and By: New Orleans Gospel at the Crossroads is the culmination of those efforts.
