We’ve posted a whole slew of new film stills on our Dropbox page. This shot of James Williams, Sr. and Keith Williams singing has to be one of my favorites from the film.

It’s been an exciting week!

For one, we launched our Kickstarter campaign to raise finishing funds for the film, and we’re already 12% there in less than a week.

In the lead-up to Jazz Fest, OffBeat Magazine published this wonderful profile of the Crown Seekers and By and By.

And the New Orleans Times-Picayune’s NOLA.COM site had this to say about the Crown Seekers opening gig in the Gospel Tent on Friday.

And on Tuesday, we’ll start posting our EXCLUSIVE content for folks who pledge $1 or more to our Kickstarter campaign, including the full performance from this moment in the French Quarter with Greg Sanders of the Crown Seekers.

Stay tuned!

Just back from New Orleans for voice-overs and other last-minute work on “By and By”. Our big news is that Offbeat magazine has confirmed a feature on the project for the Jazz Fest issue, and with a few screenings of the rough-cut under our belts, we’re ready to get down to the nitty gritty of final editing!

The Crown Seekers at JazzFest 2012

Posted in Uncategorized on February 7, 2012 by byandbythemovie

The Electrifying Crown Seekers are slated to play this year’s Jazz Fest on Friday, April 27th!

NOT on the Jazz Fest schedule and sorely missed, however, are The Voices of Distinction — here’s hoping “By and By” permanently corrects this situation …

USAToday on the Electrifying Crown Seekers: “…the essence of Jazz Fest”

Posted in Uncategorized on June 10, 2011 by byandbythemovie

USAToday had this to say about the Crown Seekers and their performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival a few weeks ago:

“The Electrifying Crown Seekers began searching for their eternal reward in 1965 and have been living up to their wholly appropriate name all the while. Guitarist James Williams, Sr., is the sole remaining original member, and he anchors the group, which is known both for its scintillating falsetto vocals (from Gregory Sanders) and James Brown-style choreography (led by co-vocalist Lloyd Fradieu). Their high-energy treatments of gospel standards such as Walk Around Heaven All Day and Old Revival brought down the gospel tent and spurred the audience to its feet. It happens every year here: The group is the essence of Jazz Fest’s rootsy spirit and more explosive than any rock headliner.”

Not bad. Not bad at all …

An “all-star” NOLA gospel trio covers the Dixie Hummingbirds

Posted in Uncategorized on February 18, 2011 by byandbythemovie

A few weeks ago, we posted a clip of the Crown Seekers covering Sam Cooke’s “That’s Heaven To Me” for what would have been his 80th birthday. During the filming of By and By, Cooke has regularly been mentioned as the biggest individual influence for most  vocalists. But when it comes to actual quartets, there’s no contest: the Dixie Hummingbirds are, by far, the biggest influence cited by NOLA groups.  This clip features James Williams from the Electrifying Crown Seekers; Sr. Audrey Ferguson from the Voices of Distinction; and Lionel Jackson from the Rocks of Harmony, doing a cover of the Dixie Hummingbirds classic, “Christian Automobile”.
